What Does Home Insurance Cost in Mallorca?

The cost of home insurance (Seguro de Hogar) in Mallorca mainly depends on the type of property, whether it is an apartment, house, finca or villa, as well as its size and construction. It also depends on the insured value of the building and contents, and whether features such as a swimming pool, a large garden or high-value items are included in the cover.

For a typical owner-occupied apartment, premiums generally range from around €12 to €20 per month. Detached houses, fincas and villas with a pool and garden are usually more expensive to insure, as both the property’s value and the level of risk are higher.

The examples below provide realistic price ranges for guidance only and do not constitute binding quotations. Your exact premium is calculated based on your individual property details and by comparing offers from several leading insurers.

Owner-occupied apartment in Palma, approx. 90 m²

Building, Contents & Personal Liability Insurance · from approx. €14/month

Finca in the south-west, approx. 220 m² with swimming pool

Building, Contents, Swimming Pool & Garden Cover · from approx. €55/month

Typical Risks for Properties in Mallorca

Owning a property in Mallorca comes with specific risks that should be covered by a comprehensive home insurance policy. When comparing insurers, we make sure your cover is tailored to the particular risks of living on the island.

Heavy Rain & Storms: During autumn, intense rainfall (known as Gota Fría) and strong winds regularly cause damage to roofs, windows, façades and outdoor structures.

Water Damage: Burst pipes, leaking installations and water ingress are among the most common insurance claims, particularly in apartment buildings and residential communities.

Burglary & Theft: Holiday homes and properties left unoccupied for extended periods are at a higher risk of burglary, making adequate contents and theft cover especially important.

Swimming Pools & Gardens: Pools, irrigation systems, outdoor equipment, landscaped gardens and related liability risks should be specifically included in your insurance policy.

What Your Home Insurance in Mallorca Covers

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my UK/EU home insurance policy cover my property in Spain?

In most cases, no. UK home insurance policies are designed to cover properties located in the United Kingdom and do not provide ongoing cover for a home in Spain. If you own a property in Mallorca, you will need a Spanish home insurance policy (Seguro de Hogar) that complies with local regulations and ensures claims are handled locally. We can review your existing insurance and help you find the most suitable cover.

Responsibility depends on where the damage originated. If the leak comes from a communal pipe or shared part of the building, the community insurance policy is usually responsible. If it originates inside your apartment, your own home insurance will normally cover the damage. In some situations, both insurers may be involved. We help coordinate the entire claims process on your behalf.

Yes, certain extraordinary natural events may be covered by Spain’s Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros, a government-backed compensation scheme. This includes events such as severe flooding, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and exceptional storms, provided your home has a valid Spanish insurance policy and the required surcharge has been paid. Your insurer will advise you on how the claims process works.

If you rent out your property, standard home insurance may not provide sufficient cover. Holiday lets and long-term rentals often require additional protection for landlords, public liability and loss of rental income. We can recommend a policy that matches how you use your property.

Yes. Our experienced multilingual team provides full claims support in English, as well as German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Polish, Swedish, Norwegian and Russian. We liaise directly with the insurer, explain every step of the process and help ensure your claim is settled as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Not always. Many standard policies limit cover if a property is left unoccupied for more than a specified period, typically between 30 and 60 consecutive days. If you own a holiday home in Mallorca, we can arrange specialist cover that protects your property even when you are away, including optional protection against burglary, water damage and malicious damage.
