The cost of boat or yacht insurance in Mallorca depends on several factors, including the value of your vessel, its length, type of boat, where it is moored (marina, buoy or dry dock), and your cruising area (Balearic Islands, the Mediterranean or worldwide cover).
Other factors such as the year of manufacture, engine power, claims history, and the skipper’s boating experience can also influence your premium.
As a general guide, Third-Party Liability Insurance for a small motorboat typically starts from around €90–€200 per year. For a yacht, Comprehensive Cover including Third-Party Liability usually costs between 0.8% and 1.5% of the vessel’s insured value per year, depending on the level of cover and the individual risk profile.

Is Third-Party Liability Insurance compulsory for boats in Spain?
Yes. For motorised boats, Third-Party Liability Insurance is a legal requirement in Spain (Royal Decree 607/1999). It covers injury to third parties and damage to their property caused by your vessel. Different rules may apply to sailing boats without an engine. We will advise you on the cover that is legally required and recommend the most suitable protection for your boat.
What boat documents and licence do I need in Mallorca?
You will usually need the boat’s registration, a valid boating licence for the size and engine power of your boat, and proof of insurance. For many charter and owner-operated boats above a certain length, a recognised recreational boating licence is required. Before you take out a policy, we will tell you which documents the insurer requires for your boat.
Does my insurance cover only the Balearic Islands or the entire Mediterranean?
That depends on the cruising area you choose. Standard policies usually cover the Balearic Islands and the western Mediterranean. If you plan longer trips, the cruising area can be extended to the entire Mediterranean or worldwide. A cruising area that is too narrow can lead to reduced benefits in the event of a claim, so we match it closely to how you use your boat.
Is my home marina included in the cover?
Most hull insurance policies cover damage while the boat is at its berth, in the marina and during trailering. Winter storage on land can also be included. Damage your boat causes to neighbouring boats or pontoons while at its berth falls under third-party liability. We make sure your berth and storage are fully covered.
What should I know about chartering or hiring out my boat?
Standard private boat insurance is designed for private recreational use only. If you intend to charter your boat or use it for commercial purposes, you will need a specialised commercial or charter boat insurance policy. Failing to declare commercial use may invalidate your insurance cover. Simply let us know how you plan to use your boat, and we’ll recommend the right insurance solution.
